Clark Kent’s birthday canonically being February 29th is hysterical to me. Not because it’s meant to jokingly explain away how Superman is a timeless character, but because it implies Martha and Jonathan Kent found an alien baby in a cornfield, and when pressed to choose a birthday for their new baby, they gave him the most difficult birthday possible.

I love the idea that Martha just knew somehow that Clark was an alien (don't give me a well duh he arrived in a spaceship you coconut because I read this one comic where Jonathan genuinely spins out at the realisation). I feel like Martha spent hours gathering evidence and Jonathan was like, babe I love you but would you fucking stop? He's not got attenae or anything can we just be pleased about our miracle kid. And then Clark gets powers and Martha whispers about her little conspiracy again and Jonathan whispers back this is not proof he's an alien! He's just like that!

Martha does classic exorcism movie shit like attend university lectures on extraterrestrial life and grill the professor on the chances of it and what if it looks like us, et cetera and share her notes and brochures with a highly bemused Jon who tells her instead about how Clark helped the vet they called over.

And then they get solid evidence and Martha is vindicated and Jonathan is floored. Because alien was so wacky he'd never seriously considered it amongst his chief hypotheses (misplaced lab experiment, standard miracle baby).

s1: awkward closed-off secretly (not so secretly) silly alien learns to feel things again because of a woman who feels so much and isn't afraid to challenge the silly alien on the importance of these feelings

s2: formerly awkward closed-off secretly (not so secretly) silly alien feels so hard that there's no defense left against an inevitable loss that both alien and woman pretended wasn't going to happen

s3: silly alien now bleeding uncontrollably everywhere, but a doctor comes along and does triage on the wounds. experience deeply traumatises this doctor and her whole family and she has to leave

s4: silly alien now in some tricky equilibrium, tries to balance bleeding heart with living, made easier because of a very special woman who understands on some intimate level the struggle of this balance. things looking up on the whole. but watch out

i feel like it’s so integral to have at least one “at home” episode for every companion. so much character to be revealed in the premise of aliens interfering with everyday life once they are back on earth

Bruce Wayne is canonically Jewish and we don’t talk about this enough. Obviously the representation would be amazing and as a Jew i would love my favorite hero to be Jewish but also it would just add so much to the character. Just like cultural flavor and personality. And of course plot lines. Like just imagine the entire bat family getting together for Jewish holidays or like batman making torah or rabbinic references all the time. Like what if he’s giving one of the bat kids a lecture and is just like “that reminds me of this story I learned about hillel and shammai in hebrew school blah blah blah”.

Also this just makes so much sense because superheroes were created by Jews like Superman literally has the most Jewish story ever but aliens can’t be born Jews and the kents aren’t Jewish so he’s not canon Jewish so having bats as Jewish is just too iconic.

This angle of Martha's kiss is devastating, they should have used this one in the final shot.

The beautiful consistency of both kisses between the Doctor and Martha being emotionally devastating to both is making me want to rip my hair out.

I remember way back when I was a new whovian I saw this fanart of Rose, Martha and Donna, each with their Doctor. The message was that Rose and Martha were so in love they just lustfully followed the Doctor around, while Donna was the one in control. And I'm bringing this up cause while I LOVE Donna to the point I'd die for her without second thought...

Have you watched the show? None of those women were damsels in distress, hopelessly following a man - they were all badasses who did not take any shit from the Doctor and did what they thought was right, even if he disagreed. They all loved the Doctor (in different ways) and more often than not that love was the very thing that made them rebel against his wishes. They all cared deeply about humanity and justice and were quick to think and do - they were never just following orders or waiting for a man

Luckily for all involved, it happens when he’s a little too young to comprehend what kidnapping IS. It does seem rather odd that mama and papa fire cooks, gardeners, and drivers so often.

Thomas is very protective over him and has huge doubts about leaving him unattended. It’s just kind of hard being around your child when you reek of murder all the time

Alfred can handle it, but there’s a collective mourning in the fact that he HAS to.

Very shy kid; Aside from Oliver and Harvey, he never made a lot of friends, but then again, his parents don’t have that many either. He has his uncle Oz and his stuffed toys, and Alfie, and that’s alright with him

I think Thomas and Martha would love for him to have some, but you just can’t be too sure, ever

I think he’d make good friends with Alberto Falcone; Thomas knows an unwanted child when he sees one, so Carmine’s little son is always welcomed around.

“you know, you’re nothing like your dad” for Alberto, that’s a compliment.

Martha was an expert marksman and definitely thought him how to handle guns, but she always made a game out of it. Can’t be too harsh with the baby

Thomas was big on spoiling him, but he also made it clear Gotham didn’t have favorites; She can, thought, pick sides sometimes.

After he and Martha get killed, Bruce wonders why she didn’t pick theirs.

Tbh I think Martha and Rose’s meetup should’ve been like,

Rose: so, what happened with you and the doctor?

Martha: oh, you know, I fancied him a fair bit, and he didn’t feel the same, and then I left

Still weird seeing Twilight be so honest with Yor about struggling to turn his brain off and just *be*. A good kind of weird, of course. I could never imagine volume one Twilight being so open with her (or anyone, really). This chapter was so nice with its references to all the way back then and showing how far they've come since. Still some sneaky Project Apple seeds being laid, of course, but overall, this was a pleasant checkpoint. A little calm before the next storm, which was sorely needed after the last arc

i really do think the desire to paint ten as unambiguously The Worst™️ when it comes to his relationship with martha is out of this desire to uncomplicate their relationship. to decouple them as friends and people who profoundly impacted each other’s lives. it’s just an easier narrative to swallow: that ten was Awful to her and then martha kicked him to the curb when she realized she was too good for him. easier, maybe, then dealing with the troubles of unrequited affection don’t have to be anyone’s fault, or that ten shut martha out in a lot of ways but let her in in others that he wouldn’t let any other companion near, or that they were still friends, they still wanted to see each other and be around each other, even though it was messy and sometimes hurt. you know?
